LeBron James hand injury update isn’t an excuse for finals loss as news caught his camp by surprise
There have been some talk that the injury is nothing more than an excuse used by James and his camp to divert the public’s attention from the Cleveland Cavaliers’ deplorable performance against the Warriors. However, it appears that Sam Amick has debunked this theory in his write-up for USA Today. According to the article, the leak did not even come from LeBron’s camp in the first place.
“The timing of the revelation led to all sorts of speculation, with fans and media members alike suspecting that the leak was coming from James’ camp as a way to provide cover for his latest Finals loss. But word of James’ injury did not originate from his camp, nor does it make much sense that he would be eager to reveal this sort of lapse in judgment.”
According to an anonymous source close to the situation, he wasn’t even sure if LeBron’s camp had any intention to make the injury known to the public.
“According to a person with knowledge of the situation, James — who was briefed on the latest media reports shortly before coming to the podium — would not have worn the cast if his injury had not already been reported. His teammates and coaches all knew what had happened, and it’s a wonder how it didn’t come out sooner. It’s also unclear if James or his associates would have shared the news at a later time, but there were no plans to pull the curtain back that night. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.”
Whatever the case may be, the Warriors are the 2018 NBA Champions. LeBron and the Cavs had their chances, but they did not deliver. The Cavaliers now have to move forward and start planning for the future — beginning with signing James to an extension at the soonest possible time.
