Cavs rumors: Richard Jefferson in danger of being odd man out in Cleveland

Richard Jefferson, Cavs

Despite the start of next season only a few weeks away, the Cleveland Cavaliers still have important decisions to make on who they will give their final roster spots to. While many expect Richard Jefferson to still make their regular season lineup, it appears that he may be in danger of losing his spot.

According to Sam Amico of Amico Hoops, the veteran swingman could be the one the Cavs will cut to make room for Dwyane Wade, who signed with the team last week.

“Veteran forward Richard Jefferson could be the odd man out when the Cleveland Cavaliers decide to cut one of their guaranteed contracts, several league sources told Amico Hoops.”

“The Cavs have recently explored making some smaller-scale trades, including some involving Jefferson, sources told Amico Hoops. But nothing has come close and the Cavs may just have to outright release a player.”

Richard Jefferson has become a crowd favorite in Northeast Ohio since he landed with the team back in the 2015-16 season. However, with the amount of talent the Cavs now possess, they may be forced to part ways with Jefferson, as they try fill the roster with the most formidable lineup possible.

It’s no secret that the Cavs are looking to win another title this coming season, and nothing short of it will be acceptable to their front office and fans. That said, it will be very important for them to use every roster spot wisely, as they will look to stack each position with players who can help them in the long run, which does not help Jefferson’s case, already being 37 years old and nearing the twilight of his career.
