The Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James will finally have their playmaker, and he seems a perfect fit for the world champions on paper. Deron Williams is the productive veteran they craved, who has All-Star credentials and Olympic experience to boot.

Williams and team leader James shared a locked room in 2008 when Team USA took home an Olympic gold medal, and their relationship blossomed over the period they spent together. The Cavaliers have become renowned for maximizing older veterans and giving them a new lease on life. Williams could very well join that group, and the Cavs are hopeful “D-Will” will keep them flowing offensively as the starters get some much needed rest.

Their recent loss to the Bulls was a perfect example of a game Williams can flourish, as rookie Kay Felder and defensive stopper DeAndre Liggins struggled to handle the ball and make plays offensively, which was one of the Cavs’ downfalls without James.

Williams is currently averaging 13.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. The Cavs’ depth, which has been questionable in previous seasons, now looks quite formidable. Some more great news filtered through to Northeast Ohio as Williams’ teammate in Dallas, Andrew Bogut, is also set to join the Wine and Gold.

Now, the Cavs will have Bogut, Williams, Richard Jefferson, Kyle Korver, Channing Frye (when Kevin Love returns), and Iman Shumpert (when J.R. Smith returns) to choose from off the bench. All of a sudden, the Cavs’ depth is a scary prospect heading into a grueling end of season and deep playoff run ahead.

As an All-Star and a productive player throughout his time in the association, Williams has grown an admirable reputation, and, speaking with reporters, the Cavs had a positive reaction to the incoming addition.

Williams looks to be just what the doctor ordered for the Cavaliers, as his floor presence, pick and roll game, and high basketball IQ can take the champions to another level overall. Bogut and Williams make the Cavs an even greater task to overcome now, and the league has been put on notice that the Cavs are ready to defend their crown.
