Tyronn Lue acknowledges Kyrie Irving is ‘still unstoppable’

Kyrie Irving, Tyronn Lue

Despite a sudden change during this busy offseason, Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to have Kyrie Irving tormenting defenders, noting his wide array of abilities before the regular season opener against Irving’s new team, the Boston Celtics.

With only a day prior to their first clash of the season, Tyronn Lue noted he’ll have something in the cards to try to contain Kyrie Irving, but he’ll still have a tough time trying to stop him.

“You want me to tell you? Really? Come on, man,” said Lue, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “I’m not going to tell you… He’s still unstoppable. He’s still the same player. Just with a different team. So, offensively, like I said before, he has no offensive weaknesses so that’s all I can say.”

Lue was witness to Irving’s skills for the better part of two seasons for the Cavs and knows first-hand how big of a weapon he can be when deployed correctly.

Paired next to Gordon Hayward and Al Horford, Irving and the Celtics present a real problem for the Cavs this season, so long as both squads remain healthy through this less-demanding 82-game season.

The Cavs and Celtics will tip off the regular season tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.
