LeBron James leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers means that the team is going to take a step back next year, and there really isn’t any way around it. In turn, Tristan Thompson now believes the Cavs can be his.

James was the one who carried the team, and when you lose one of the greatest players in NBA history, the team is going to get worse, but for some players they see it as an opportunity to step up, and to become better individual players.

One of those guys is Tristan Thompson according to Jason Brow of Hollywood Life who thinks this can be a good opportunity. Via Brow:

“Now that LeBron is gone, the Cleveland Cavaliers are in a situation where almost anything can happen,” a source close to Tristan exclusively tells HollywoodLife.com. “But with those thoughts as they are, nobody expects them to even get close to the NBA Finals.”

Yet, the source says that Tristan “feels like this could be a great opening and opportunity to where he could become a superstar in the NBA.”

Thompson had one the worst seasons of his career last year on and off the court. On the court, he struggled with injuries and when he did play he couldn’t seem to get into a rhythm. Off the court, he did have his first kid with Khloe Kardashian, but there was also the cheating scandal that followed him around, and will probably continue.

With James gone there won’t be as much pressure on him, and maybe that’s exactly what the big guy needs. He can just focus on his game, without the spotlight on his team, and maybe it is the perfect opportunity to thrive.

The Cavs will obviously hope Thompson is right.
