The Cleveland Cavaliers made several deals before Thursday’s 3:00 p.m. EST trade deadline, including one that sent Channing Frye to the Los Angeles Lakers.

In an attempt to get younger and more athletic, the Cavs sent Frye, Isaiah Thomas, and their own first-round pick in the 2018 Draft to the Lakers for Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson.

Frye, now 34 years of age, became a beloved member of the Cavaliers organization. As most fans of the team know, the former Arizona Wildcat standout was an important member of their 2016 championship run.

Cavs general manager Koby Altman released a heartfelt statement with regards to Frye’s departure after Thursday’s trade deadline had passed, via Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

“Channing Frye is a champion, true pro and great person,” Altman said in his statement. “He has been part of a special group of teammates on and off the court for us, as his impacts were both tangible and intangible. It is difficult to see him go and we wish Channing and his family the very best.”

Altman also thanked Thomas for his service to the Cavs — albeit short-lived.

“IT has had a difficult and very challenging basketball journey over the last year as he has worked extremely hard to make progress in his return to play,” Altman said. “He is a true competitor and that will certainly help him in his continued work on the court.”

Frye recorded a video message to thank Cavs fans after hearing the news.

“I just want to say thank you to all of the Cavs fans, Cleveland, everybody,” Frye said in his post. “Business is business. I’m off to the Lakers — it happens. I’m excited. They’re a great young team.”

The Cavs, now the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference standings with a 31-22 overall record, will be back in action on Friday night, as they’re scheduled to face the Atlanta Hawks inside Philips Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. EST with FOX Sports Ohio and FOX Sports Southeast having live broadcast coverage.
