Veteran NBA point guard Ricky Rubio is keeping his options open for the potential to continue his playing career across the Atlantic. Rubio, who is still under contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers after signing a three-year deal with the team in 2022 that’s worth $18.44 million, recently appeared on the La Sotana podcast and hinted about going back to Europe (h/t Johnny Askounis of EuroHoops).

“I am starting to consider my return,” he commented on intending to move his talents back to Europe during an appearance on the podcast La Sotana, “Going home. To Barcelona. Close to home.”

It can be remembered that Ricky Rubio suffered a devastating and season-ending knee injury in December of 2021. The recovery process was not easy for the Spanish court general but he managed to make a triumphant return to action in the NBA during the 2022-23 NBA season. Between the time he got injured and his reappearance in the NBA, he was traded by the Cavs to the Indiana Pacers before inking the aforementioned contract with Cleveland.

At 32 years old and after recovering from a torn ACL, Ricky Rubio believes he’s far from done in the game of basketball. His experience and proven ability to make plays for his teammates add depth to and stabilize the Cavs’ backcourt which is unquestionably being run by Donovan Mitchell. In Europe, Ricky Rubio can enjoy a bigger role and increased playing time.

So far in his career in the NBA, Ricky Rubio is averaging 10.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game.
