The Cleveland Cavaliers had a successful NBA Draft on Thursday night, bringing in four prospects. Cleveland’s first selection at no. 14 drew the most excitement. The Cavs landed Kansas guard Ochai Agbaji at 14, an exciting selection for a team that looks to be on the rise in the Eastern Conference. Agabji shared his initial reaction to being drafted by the Cavs, via ClutchPoints.
Agabji first thanked the Cavs for “believing in him”, then it was all business from there. The talented NBA Draft prospect said he’s going to “give 110 percent” and “represent the city well.”
The Kansas product honestly sounds like a Cav already. Cleveland is also hoping that he will play like one, following a recent trend of young prospects developing quickly, a key to the franchise’s quick turnaround in 2021.
Agabji played a key role for the Jayhawks’ national championship team this past season, as he averaged 18.8 points, while knocking down 2.6 three-pointers per game at a 40.7 percent clip.
A four-year starter in the Big 12, Agabji is one of the more NBA-ready prospects in the draft, good news for a Cavs team looking to take the next step in the Eastern Conference.
Agabji fills a need on the perimeter for the Cavs, who will hope that his three-point prowess and scoring ability will help propel them to the postseason next year.
