The Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Monday that All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas will make his season debut on Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Shortly after that, teammate LeBron James took to Instagram to voice his excitement about Thomas’ long-awaited return to the court.

It has been a long and arduous process for Thomas over the last few months dealing with the recovery process from a hip injury. He has been sidelined since the Eastern Conference Finals back in late May when he was a member of the Boston Celtics.

The 29-year-old’s return could provide a huge offensive boost to the Cavaliers especially after coming off his best individual season where he averaged a career-high 28.9 points per game. His scoring prowess could help lift much of the offensive load from James’ shoulders in the process.

There will have to be much patience with Thomas early on as he will have a minute restriction as he eases himself back into the fold. The focus will remain on having him eventually worked back into the fold in a significant capacity by the time playoffs swing around.

In the meantime, the return of Thomas has clearly brought a new level of excitement throughout the organization.
