Talent only forms a small part of the equation of greatness. Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James, considered to be the best player in his generation, knows this equation very well. The Cavs forward knows that despite his natural gifts as an athlete, there is no substitute for putting in the work.

In an interview with Fox Sports, James notes that there are days when he really felt like not doing anything for the day. However, after two to three minutes, he feels that he needs to get up and work.

Truly, it is this form of discipline that separates good players from great players. NBA players always mention that everyone in the league is physically adept and capable. Once upon a time, these players were considered the best in their respective high school or college teams. Only a few, however, rise up from the crop. And these players are the ones who put in the extra effort.

At 6-foot-8 and over 260 lbs, what people see is a freight train running and dunking over the opposing team. What they don’t see is countless of hours put in the gym, the daily routine that James does to keep his body in top form. What’s more impressive is that he’s doing this at 33-years-old after 15 solid years in the league.

James’ work ethic has translated into good things with a quick glance at the stat sheets. He averages 27.1 points per game, 7.1 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game for this career. On the season, he has logged in 26.9 points, a career-best 9.0 assists, and 8.4 rebounds per contest.
