LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers could become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, giving him his third opportunity to have full control over where he wants to play basketball, live and raise his children.

It’s a big decision not only for him, but for the entire NBA landscape. Literally all 30 teams would love to have James play for them, but only a few have a legitimate chance of signing him.

But James has to make that decision first before anything real really happens. And per Marc Stein of the New York Times, fans may have a glimpse into how long he will take to make his decision after looking at what happened the last two times.

Nine and a half days doesn’t sound like a long time, but it can be a lifetime depending on what team you like or are. However, there are those around the NBA that feel he will make decision earlier.

The reason timing matters regarding when James will make his decision is because the fates of so many other franchises hang in the balance. James has only a few days to decide whether or not he will exercise his contract option. If he doesn’t he will become a free agent and can sign with any team he wants.

If he decides to pick up his option, he could still leave Cleveland, but only via trade.

Whatever he decides on that front remains to be seen. What everyone is watching is what team he wants to play for, and how that team plans to get him.
