LeBron James’ handpicked ‘G.O.A.T.’ writing on NBA 2K19 cover fans flames of debate

Not everyone was over the moon after seeing Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James grace the cover of the newly-announced NBA 2K19, taking over the mantle from former Cavs guard Kyrie Irving, who was in the cover of this season’s iteration.

The cover notoriously sports only James’ face, as 2K is obviously unwilling to go through last year’s process of updating the cover a week prior to its release, forced to switch Irving’s Cavaliers jersey into a Celtics one.

Yet what made this cover even more debatable was the choice of words surrounding James’ cover, specifically using “G.O.A.T.” among them, a self-given label that some disagree with.

The trailer, which features a soundtrack using the words “Greatest of All-Time” also sparked controversy among those doubting King James as the heir to the throne.

Some agreed with the G.O.A.T. sentiment…

While some did not…

James has said since the start of his career that his goal in making the NBA was to become the greatest of all-time, and while the title is up for debate (and likely will be even after he retires), the words chosen to go into the cover were handpicked by him to best encompass what he’s all about.

A mix of being a family man, a devoted social activist, and a star player with a workmanlike work ethic.
