LeBron James is one of the closest persons to Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade, but even the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar is not privy to whether Wade would still be around the NBA as a player beyond this season. Knowing that Tuesday’s road game against the Miami Heat could be the last time he and Wade had shared a court in an official NBA contest, James spent a little bit more time on the floor following the Cavs’ 98-79 loss to the Heat.

Speaking to reporters after the game, James expressed his uncertainty on whether he would see Wade back in the NBA next season, per Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel.

“But our brotherhood is beyond this game of basketball. You just don’t take for granted. You just don’t know. We’ll see what happens in the summer.”

James said he was covering all bases, with Tuesday the third and final meeting between the teams during the regular season.

“Absolutely, absolutely,” James said. “Just kind of hearing the narrative since he came here, he’s not quite sure what he’s going to do next year. He’s going to assess everything.”

Dwyane Wade began this season wearing a Cavs uniform, but rumored turmoil within the team coupled with an unacceptable number of losses forced Cleveland to nearly blowing out the entire roster at the trade deadline. Among those that were traded was Wade, who was sent back to South Beach in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick.

Wade is playing on a one-year contract and would become a free agent on the first day of July – just like LeBron James.

Wade is 36 and has a body that has been banged up with a plethora of injuries throughout his career, and because of that, he has yet to play 82 games in a season.

Wade is not pressed to make a decision now, however, as his focus remains on helping the Heat secure a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
