On Friday evening, word came down the wire stating that six-time NBA All Star Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder had agreed to the terms of a five-year, $205 million contract extension — the richest contract in NBA history.

Thunder fans all across the globe can breathe a sigh of relief, as their ultra-talented point guard is staying with the team for the foreseeable future.

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, there is no place I would rather be than Oklahoma City,” Westbrook said. “I am so honored to have the opportunity to continue my career here with the Thunder.”

One NBA player who seems thrilled about the news of Westbrook’s big contract is Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, who sent out a congratulatory tweet to the former UCLA stand-out on Friday night.

“Congrats to my G @russwest44 on that bag!!! OKC got a great one!!(like they don’t already know)” 🤷🏾‍♂️ #WhyNot

There is no doubt that Westbrook, now 28 years of age, will be looking to pick up right where he left off last season. In his 81 games played for the Thunder during their 2016-17 campaign, the former No. 4 overall selection in the 2008 Draft (Seattle Supersonics) posted some of the best statistical figures of his career, averaging 31.6 points on 43 percent shooting from the field, 10.7 rebounds, 10.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per contest.

As most hoops fans know, the Thunder added a pair of stars (Paul George and Carmelo Anthony) to their rotation this offseason to play alongside Westbrook, making for a truly formidable lineup. With the start of the 2017-18 season approaching fast, it won’t be long before this group of talented athletes can be seen together in on-court action.
