Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Alrman held a unique press conference inside Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday morning. With workers from The Q Transformation Project gathered around, Altman revealed that Kevin Love has agreed to the terms of a four-year, $120 million contract extension.
Cavs fans are delighted to have Love on-board for a few more seasons, but the good news doesn’t stop there.
According to a report from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Cavs are now set to make a move on Larry Nance Jr’s contract extension. In fact, Windhorst reports that the Akron, Ohio native will be the team’s next priority.
The Cavs acquired Nance Jr. from the Los Angeles Lakers in February. His gritty, hard-working style of play made him a favorite among fans of the team, and his numbers were there to back it up.
In 24 appearances with the Cavs during their 2017-18 regular-season campaign (10 starts), Nance Jr. racked up averages of 8.9 points on 55.0 percent shooting from the field, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.2 steals, and just under one block (0.8) in 20.8 minutes per outing.
An extension for Larry Nance Jr., 25, certainly makes sense. Not only is he a hometown guy, he’s also a great player, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Alongside second-year forward Cedi Osman and rookie sensation Collin Sexton, the Cavs would have a formidable, young lineup.
Exactly how much the Cavs will offer Nance Jr. remains to be seen. Both sides seem to be interested, to be sure. However, the market for talented young bigs in the NBA is hard to gauge at times, especially with the recent salary cap boost. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what sort of offer Altman and his team brew up.
