Former Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Larry Nance Sr. wants his son Larry Nance Jr. to get on with the trend in the NBA — and that is to shoot threes. According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, the 60-year-old Nance reportedly asked a Cavs assistant coach to incorporate more three-point shooting on the 26-year-old’s pre-game routine.

Larry Nance Sr. wants his son to work more on 3s during his pregame routine. Why? Because the league is going the way of the 3, even if you’re a 6-9 power forward. And also, Larry Jr. can make ’em.

Nance Sr., who played over six seasons in Cleveland, also reportedly asked that the team give his son a guard or a wing-like pregame routine on shooting threes. Unfortunately, the assistant turned down his request but assured that they would work on that during the summer.

Both father and son are known for their high-flying acts on the court. And it’s clear where Nance Jr. got his hops from. But with the way the league is going right now, Nance Sr. obviously doesn’t want his son to get lost in the shuffle.

Nonetheless, Nance Jr. is a more capable three-point shooter than his father ever was in his 13-year NBA career. Over that span, Nance Sr. only attempted 55 career three-pointers and made just eight.

Nance Jr., on the other hand, is having a career year shooting the ball. The Akron-native has attempted and made more three-pointers this season than he has in his four-year NBA career. On the season, he is 21-of-60 on three-pointers, shooting 35 percent, which is a pretty decent clip. However, the sample size is small, and Nance Jr. has to increase his frequency of hoisting up more threes so we can see his true capabilities as an outside shooter.

Nonetheless, Nance Jr. has a smooth-looking jumper and has his mechanics pretty much on point. He just needs more reps in the gym to be a more confident and consistent shooter from the great beyond. Hopefully, he will come back with more in his arsenal by the 2019-20 season.
