The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Larry Nance Jr. in a trade from the Los Angeles Lakers, which meant the son of Cavs’ legend Larry Nance was coming home. The arrival of Nance Jr. prompted his father to plead with him as well as the organization to let him wear his retired number 22 jersey which currently hangs in the rafters at Quicken Loans Arena.

In a segment of ESPN’s Golic and Wingo on Wednesday where Nance spoke about a number of topics including his son and the Cavs future, Nance was asked what age his son was when he first beat him in game of one-on-one.

“He can’t beat me now!” Nance joked. “Nah, I’m just kidding. Hey look, you’re not getting me in trouble. Have you seen that big ol’ boy? 6-foot-9, 235 lbs, he’s a machine. When he went to Wyoming, I would say his second year in Wyoming, he was beginning to get a little to fast for me and everything. There’s nothing in the world like watching your kids play. I could watch him practice and its better than any game I’ve been in. It’s such a blessing.”

In his first couple of games with the Cavs, Nance Jr. has averaged nine points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steal, and 1.5 blocks per game on 46.7 percent shooting from the field in 23 minutes of action.

Nance Jr. will look to continue what his father started in trying to help the Cavs deliver an NBA Championship to the city of Cleveland. That would probably make Nance even more proud of his son, if possible.
