It goes without saying that the series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers is one of the most competitive showdowns in the playoffs. Of course, one of the more interesting dynamics of this matchup is that it pits forward LeBron James against his old nemesis in guard Lance Stephenson.
Stephenson has spent years getting under James’ skin in the postseason. Despite all his attempts to get “The King” to lash out, he can only recall one time where James actually responded to his trash talk.
NBA announcer Mike Breen shared the story which included a not-so-surprising response from James, via Fabrizio Gilardi of Ball Don’t Lie:
“What is wrong with you.”
James’ response is what many NBA fans have been asking ever since Stephenson burst onto the playoff scene all those years ago. Needless to say, he is still every bit the animated player he used to be. More importantly, he is making solid contributions from an individual standpoint by providing an instant spark off the bench.
The energy Stephenson has brought has undoubtedly helped fuel this determined Pacers team. Indiana even managed to maintain its homecourt advantage with a clutch 92-90 win in Game 3 to take a 2-1 series lead. However, it is going to take much more than the feeble efforts of Stephenson to throw James off his game.
Despite the team’s current struggles, the Cavs’ star has managed to keep the team within striking distance near the end of the last two games. Although one managed to slip away, expect James to stay aggressive moving forward no matter who is guarding him.
