The king has returned to Cleveland — well, the king of Road Trippin’ at the least — after Channing Frye agreed to a one-year $2.4 million contract with the Cavaliers. The Cavs and Frye have two-and-a-half years worth of partnership under their belts.

Frye was a locker room favorite during his first run of duty in Cleveland. Even after he was traded last season, his rapport with the Cavs remained with light banters in social media from time to time. Among those whom Frye had a special connection with was Kevin Love.

The All-Star power forward welcomed his buddy back with a photoshopped image of Frye and LeBron James’ 2014 homecoming banner.

The Cavs can opt to remain competitive in a wide-open Eastern Conference or begin their rebuild with Collin Sexton as the main piece. But with Frye’s addition to the team, it appears that the 2016 world champions are leaning towards the former. Then again, his contract also makes him a potential trade piece at some point this season.

Frye was a key member of the 2016 champion Cavaliers. His floor-stretching capability allowed the team’s offense to flourish with LeBron in tow, especially in the East playoffs. Now, the former Arizona Wildcat isn’t expected to be as big of a cog as he was from his previous stint in Cleveland, but his veteran presence and jovial attitude will play an important role for a team that’s about to feel the harsh reality of losing its best player.
