Kevin Love wants to remain with Cleveland, finish career with LeBron James
The Cleveland Cavaliers are fresh off an embarrassing loss in the 2018 NBA Finals in which they were swept by the Golden State Warriors. Having LeBron James back would mean they would be competing for an NBA title again next season, but it has become clear over the past two seasons that beating the stacked Warriors would require more than just having the four-time MVP in Cleveland’s fold. In other words, the Cavs would have to trade some pieces to fortify their roster.
Kevin Love is perhaps the most popular asset rumored to be the Cavs’ top trade chip, but if his professional fate is up to him, he’d stay put in Cleveland and finish his career, per Matthew Florjancic of WKYC.com.
“Anything is possible,” Love said. “People have been saying that for the past four years. I knew that question would come, but I like to be here. I’ve always said that. Always wanted to win here.”
Also, Love expressed his desire to continue playing alongside LeBron James, whom he understands is going to take some time to come up with a decision with regards to his pending free agency.
“It’s something where I’m sure he will spend time with his family and when that times comes to make a decision, he will be in a good frame of mind,” Love said. “Obviously, I’d love to play with LeBron the rest of my career, but that will be a choice that he makes.”
Since arriving in Cleveland in 2014 via a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin Love has been an integral part of the Cavs’ success. Last season, he averaged 17.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in 59 games, while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from distance.
Love is a controllable asset by the Cavs until 2020, when the five-year deal he signed with Cleveland in 2015 is set to expire.
