The Cleveland Cavaliers routed the Boston Celtics 116-86 at home to take Game 3 and breathe life back into their side of the Eastern Conference Finals series. Although the Cavs were favored to take this one against the Celtics, a team that has not fared well on the road during these playoffs, no one expected to the game to be this huge of a blowout.
While the margin of victory is a surprise, it was easily topped by a shocking fact about Kendrick Perkins after the game. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin tweeted an exchange between Perkins and teammate Kevin Love which revealed that the bruising center has no idea who Chewbacca is.
Kevin Love: “Are you going to go hang out with Chewbacca?” Kendrick Perkins: “Who is that?” (Love shows Perk a photo on his phone of Chewy sitting courtside at Game 3) Perk: “Oh, I don’t really keep up with all that new stuff.”
Star Wars fans, please don’t get mad at the Cavs veteran for not knowing about the brave Millenium Falcon-flying Wookie. He is also a proponent of the force — although Perkins has his own version of it which he has been using throughout his career to strike fear into opponents.
Is Perkins more of a Star Trek guy, then? We’ll have to find out for ourselves. One thing clear is that the Cavs are undefeated whenever Chewie watches a game live.
