Jordan Clarkson and all the three new members of the Cleveland Cavaliers are just two games in, but their energy is already drawing a lot of encouragement from the team, the fans, and the media.
Clarkson himself is very upbeat with having a refreshing start. After he debuted well weeks ago, wherein he helped the Cavs rout the number one-ranked defense in the league, the Boston Celtics, 121-99, he had this to say, via Matthew Florjancic of WKYC:
“These guys, they welcomed us with open arms.. Even when we landed, the hours that we spent before this game, you could see that dudes really care, and it’s a cool vibe.”
Now that he has a couple of more Cavs practices under his belt, he’s even more excited. Here’s what he told reporters during Wednesday’s practice, via Clutch Points’ very own, Nikki Goel:
Such a statement could probably generate ire from the passionate Los Angeles Lakers fans, but he does make a valid point considering everything. While with the Purple and Gold for three-plus seasons, the team was never in a position to contend for a playoff spot. They never had more than 26 wins in any of those years and were on-pace to have below 35 this season.
Clarkson also appeared to be no more than a sixth man in the Lakers’ rotation, which isn’t exactly a regular role. The franchise had drafted key players in various positions and had continuously bumped him into the second unit, all despite being a very efficient offensive weapon whenever called upon. Prior to getting traded, he was chipping in 22.1 points and 5.0 assists per 36 minutes of play.
With Cavaliers, he has a great chance of being a starter and be a key contributor on a playoff-contending team. LeBron James is always fond of role players having the ability to patiently wait on the wing, move well without the ball, and also create shots for themselves when needed to.
The Cavs return to action Thursday night when they play host to the Washington Wizards. It will be the home debut for Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., George Hill, and Rodney Hood.
