With Kobe Bryant’s double jersey retirement ceremony happening on Monday, many players and coaches have given their congratulatory messages to him, as well recalling their most memorable moments of him, whether playing alongside or competing against The Black Mamba.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith was asked what his was recently by a fan on Twitter, and he did not hesitate to share it. He recalled that it was back in his rookie season when he was given specific instructions on how to defend him, yet he still failed to do so, and fell to his fake, resulting to a three-point play.
Smith’s story definitely goes to show how good Bryant was during his playing days. He made a living with his post moves, as well as his fadeaway jumpers, which were almost impossible to stop. The Los Angeles Lakers legend continued to transform his game and added new moves to his skill set, allowing him to still dominate his defenders even at the latter stage of his illustrious career.
Bryant last played in the NBA back in the 2015-16 season and announced his retirement after his 20th year in the league. He has won almost all awards the league has to offer, including the MVP Award, being named an All-Star 18 times, and most notably, five championships. He will forever be remembered as one of the fiercest competitors the game has ever had, and an all-time great who will surely be part of the Hall of Fame as well.
