All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas is closing in on finally making his debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers this season.

However, it won’t be on Saturday night against the Utah Jazz, but he is expected to partake in team scrimmaging on Friday and once again on New Year’s Day, according to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic.

Following Saturday’s game, the Cavaliers’ next game won’t be until Jan. 2 against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Quicken Loans Arena. With Thomas ramping up his activity over the last week, this should put him on track to possibly make a return at some point next week with a pair of scrimmages under his belt.

The 29-year-old has already spoken about the opportunity to play against his former team, Boston Celtics, next week as it lines up nearly perfectly with the original timetable for his return to the court. There is plenty of personal motivation for him to play against the Celtics.

Keep in mind, a report has surfaced that Thomas tried to force his way onto the court against the Sacramento Kings this past Wednesday’s game. All of this makes it quite clear that he is drawing extremely close to finally getting back in the fold. This fluid situation should be much more clarity on his status after his participation in practice next Monday.
