Isaiah Thomas made a number of headlines recently for making his long-awaited debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. However, that was not the only news about him that was much talked about, as his request to not be given a tribute video in his return to Boston the following night was also the topic of a lot of conversations.

Many fans of the C’s were not pleased with what Thomas asked for, as it has been the practice of teams when they welcome their former players who had a long and successful stints with them during their first visit back in their home court. While they ultimately agreed to it, they still plan to pay their respects to him in the future, but the two-time All-Star explained that he only wants nothing to be taken away from Paul Pierce, as the tribute video could be played on February 11 when the Cavs visit TD Garden once again.

That night will be for The Truth, who spent 15 seasons with the team and establishing himself as one of their best players ever. He also brought a championship to the Celtics back in 2008, along with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, and was named the Finals MVP of that year. It was the last time the franchise won a title, which was their 17th in total.

With Thomas’ interview, he made it clear that he did not mean to sound not thankful for the plans of the C’s and that he feels special for them honor him. His request also goes to show how much he respects Pierce, who he knows has done more for the storied franchise and deserves all the attention during his jersey retirement night.
