During their time as teammates with the Boston Celtics, Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Smart formed a strong bond and had good chemistry on and off the court. They played huge parts for the team in their deep playoff runs the past couple of seasons, learning a lot from each other to become the players that they have turned out to be.

Even if Thomas is now playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, it is understandable that he misses his former teammates, including Smart. He talked about him recently and even made a hilarious comment on how much he loves him despite having the knack to flop to sell calls to the referees, via Brian Robb of the Boston Sports Journal.

The backcourt duo played together for three seasons in Beantown and complimented each other’s games. Thomas established himself as a big time scorer despite being one of the shortest point guards in the league today while Smart emerged as an elite defender who is not afraid to go up against the best shooting guards of other teams.

On Wednesday, it would’ve been the first meeting between both teams with Thomas part of the active lineup for the Cavs. However, after making his season debut on Tuesday, he will be rested and not allowed to play in back-to-backs as he is still not 100 percent yet. It would’ve been a fun matchup to see, but for now, the fans will have to wait until later this season to see them share the floor together wearing different jerseys.
