Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Isaiah Thomas was ejected during the third quarter of Monday night’s 127-99 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves after inadvertently clotheslining Andrew Wiggins. Now, after an official review of the play from the NBA, Thomas has been issued a $20,000 fine.
Thomas, now 28 years of age, finished Monday nights game with nine points on 3-11 shooting from the field (1-5 from beyond the arc), three assists, and one rebound in 19 minutes of playing time.
The Cavs struggled with accuracy and defense against the Timberwolves, as the final score suggests. In fact, Cleveland made just 13 of their 38 attempts from three-point territory (34.2%). Furthermore, the Cavs racked up 13 turnovers to Minnesota’s five.
Thomas may have summed it up best during his post-game interview, saying: “It was just one of those nights.”
“As a team, we just had no rhythm on both ends,” Thomas said during his media availability following Monday night’s game. “There’s gonna be nights like this — I know that. I’ve been in the league seven years, so I know these types of nights. We just gotta have better energy.”
The Cavs will look to get back into the win column on Thursday night, as they’re scheduled for a match-up against the Toronto Raptors inside the Air Canada Centre. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. EST with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
