The Cleveland Cavaliers recently got some good news with the looming return of star point guard Isaiah Thomas. Although he will be unavailable for their Christmas Day game versus the high-powered Golden State Warriors, Thomas is expected to make his 2017-18 regular season debut at some point next week.

However, that did not stop him from treating fans to an early Christmas present by taking part in the Cavs warmups prior to Thursday’s matchup versus the Chicago Bulls. According to Tom Withers of the Associated Press, Thomas felt like he was taking the floor for the first time in his career:

“It was everything. When I was out there in warmups, it just felt like I was a rookie again, like my first game. I haven’t been in an arena like that where you’re warming up, you’re with teammates, that’s so new right now.”

It has been a whirlwind year for the two-time All-Star. Thomas had endured the death of his sister during last year’s postseason run with the Boston Celtics before being dealt to the Cavs in the blockbuster trade of the summer, all while rehabbing from hip surgery.

That said, the fresh start with the Cavs was expected to come with a new perspective for Isaiah Thomas. However, Cavs fans are hoping he can get assimilated quickly to help boost their dire backcourt situation.
