Despite a tough goodbye to the city he called home for the better part of three years in a self-written article in The Players’ Tribune, Isaiah Thomas expressed his excitement of starting this new stage of his career, and getting the opportunity to play with a player of LeBron James’ talent.
“I’m excited to play with the best player in the world,” said Thomas during his introductory press conference on Thursday. “Being put in this situation on this court is everything. To be put on the floor with guys like Kevin Love and a coach like Tyronn Lue, it’s a match made in heaven. Like I said, I’m excited.”
Thomas leaves a home in a city like Boston that rallied together when he lost his sister Chyna to a one-person car accident back in April, but now has another that will need him to perform in order to chase another Eastern Conference crown and punch a fourth-straight ticket to the NBA Finals.
His hip injury will take a few months to heal but depending on the complications or lack thereof, the Cavaliers could net his services by the start of next year as the season takes a more serious tone.
James and Thomas can be a tandem to watch out for, as both are gifted scorers that can be a handful to handle for any team in the NBA. Their pick-and-roll game could prove instrumental for Tyronn Lue’s side as they fine-tune their offense into what it should be come playoff time.
