Indians’ AA affiliate to retire former Cavs star LeBron James’ #23 on July 23rd

LeBron james

LeBron James’ legacy will always be linked to Ohio after bringing a championship to Cleveland. When his career is finally over, he’s sure to get his jersey retired by the Cavaliers. But the Cavs won’t be the only team with the number 23 retired in honor of James.

The Akron RubberDucks, the Indians’ AA affiliate, will retire James’ number on July 23rd during a LeBron James Celebration night. The RubberDucks will be the first professional team to retire James’ jersey. In addition to the jersey retirement, the RubberDucks will be offering $5 tickets to fans wearing LeBron James gear and they will donate $1 of every ticket sold to the LeBron James Family Foundation.

In addition to the number being retired and the ticket deal, Akron will be debuting their G.O.A.T. Burger that will be two steak patties topped with goat cheese.

This is a great idea from James’ hometown RubberDucks. Minor league baseball teams are constantly trying to come up with quirky deals and promotions to bring in fans. This is about as good as it gets.

And while we’re here, Michael Jordan never got his number retired by a minor league baseball team, and he even played minor league baseball during his brief retirement from basketball. Chalk up another win for the LeBron crowd.

Forget about their respective records in the NBA Finals, the “greatest of all time” conversation is about each player’s lasting legacy. Looks like LeBron already had a better baseball career than Jordan ever could. The GOAT conversation is officially over.
