Evan Mobley saved the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, with his game-winning jumper with four seconds left sealing the deal. However, right after he made his shot, the second year big man was only saying one thing to himself: calm down.
Mobley knew he can’t celebrate yet, not with significant time remaining on the clock for the Suns to take one more shot to tie the game or even drain a game-winning triple. The Cavs youngster emphasized they still needed to get the stop on the other end.
Mikal Bridges was able to get a shot for the Suns, but he missed their only chance as the Cavs held on for the 90-88 win.
Evan Mobley certainly had the right mentality in the game, and that awareness he has–both in draining the game-winner and reacting after that–benefited the Cavs big time in the victory.
While he scored just six points in the contest, there is no doubt he also made the most important shot for Cleveland. He also had eight boards, one assist and two steals in the contest.
Mobley still has a lot of work to do to tap his full potential, and clearly, consistent production remains a big issue for him. But against the Suns, he proved that he has that quality to be a star in the NBA.
The Cavs face the Denver Nuggets next, and hopes are high Mobley can step up for the Cavs once again.
