The Cleveland Cavaliers earned a competitive 135-130 victory over the Houston Rockets in overtime Monday. Donovan Mitchell performed well in the game, scoring 37 points and recording six assists. He did suffer a shoulder injury scare, however, but downplayed the incident after the game.

Mitchell said he felt “great” after the win, per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. The Cavs star also said he expects to be “fine” for Cleveland’s next game.

Mitchell and the Cavs have dealt with injury trouble this season. Cleveland entered the season with high expectations but have struggled at times. Still, they hold a respectable 15-12 record.

That hasn’t stopped trade rumors from swirling around Donovan Mitchell, however. The Cavaliers currently hold the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference and feature enough potential to continue climbing the standings. As a result, Mitchell could end up staying in Cleveland.

The Cavs’ performance over the next month will go a long way towards determining whether or not Mitchell will be traded.

Donovan Mitchell leading Cavs in 2023-24

Mitchell is enjoying another strong season. He’s made four consecutive All-Star teams and is on track to earn another selection.

Mitchell is currently averaging 27.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. He’s also recording 1.8 steals per contest. The Cavs would not be where they are without Mitchell’s contributions.

His effort in Cleveland’s victory over the Rockets could spark a winning streak. It would not be surprising to see this Cavs team feed off of the momentum from that win.

Cleveland will host the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, a game that Donovan Mitchell expects to play in despite his recent injury scare. We will continue to monitor and provide updates on his status as they are made available.
