Earlier this summer, the Cleveland Cavaliers officially welcomed Derrick Rose to the team. While it’s true that there are some lingering concerns with regards to his history of injuries, it seems as though the former NBA MVP is excited to play in a wine and gold uniform.

On Monday, the Cavs held their annual media day at Cleveland Clinic Courts in Independence, Ohio. When asked just how excited he is for this new opportunity, Rose, who has been named the starting point guard for the team due to Isaiah Thomas’ hip issues, gave a direct reply.

“I mean, it’s very exciting,”” Rose said. “That’s one of the reasons why I chose to come here. For one, I’ll be happy playing basketball again, and I’m back in a winning environment. The franchise and everybody that’s here — everybody has one common goal, and that’s to win a championship. That’s something I’ve been wanting my entire career, the opportunity to play for a championship. So I have a huge opportunity in front of me and I’m not shying away from it.”

Rose, now 28 years of age, should be a fine addition the Cavs’ rotation. In his 64 games played for the New York Knicks last season, the three-time All Star averaged 19.5 points on 47 percent shooting from the field, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and just under one steal (.8) in 32.5 minutes per outing.

With less than a month remaining until the start of the 2017-18 NBA season, it sounds like Rose is ready to lock in for the common cause.
