The Cleveland Cavaliers enjoyed themselves at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, with Ricky Rubio going for a career-high 37 points on eight 3-pointers and Evan Mobley dominating all over the court in an impressive 126-109 victory. There was one downer, though, as guard Collin Sexton suffered a knee injury and didn’t play in the second half.
Sexton bumped knees with Jarrett Allen in the latter half of the second quarter and left the game with discomfort, according to Chris Fedor of cleveland.com. The Cavs guard didn’t return and will undergo further testing on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, with head coach J.B. Bickerstaff not offering much of an update after the game.
Cleveland didn’t miss a beat without Sexton thanks to Rubio’s career game. The veteran point guard, who has never been known as much of a shooter, made his first eight triples of the game before missing his last one. He shot 13-of-19 from the field and also handed out 10 assists in the incredible performance.
Meanwhile, Mobley had 26 points, nine rebounds and five assists as he continues to stake his claim as the Rookie of the Year frontrunner. The Cavs are a shocking 7-4 against a tough schedule in large part due to Mobley’s quick development.
The vibes are great in Cleveland right now. Let’s hope Sexton isn’t hurt too bad and will be able to return to action sooner rather than later.
