With the Cleveland Cavaliers selecting Vanderbilt guard Darius Garland with the fifth overall pick, they have formed one of the most potentially dynamic backcourts in the league with Garland playing alongside incoming sophomore point guard Collin Sexton.

Recently, these two young guards spoke to Chris Fedor of cleveland.com, with both players sharing a common enthusiasm to take the court with their new backcourt partner.

“I was very excited,” Sexton said when asked how he felt about the Cavs deciding to draft another point guard with a high pick. “You watch the NBA now and it’s more like a two-guard offense and coach, all he’s ever run is two-guard offense.”

There were some who questioned Cleveland’s decision to add another high-profile point guard to their line-up with Sexton already in the picture. However, this does not appear to bother Sexton himself, who is visibly excited with the prospect of playing alongside Garland.

For his part, Garland agrees with Sexton. In his mind, there appears to be no positional conflict, and he even believes that they can do great things as a duo.

“I’m really excited,” Garland said. “Collin, he’s really good. I think I can help him and I think we can both combine to do some crazy things in Cleveland.”

It’s hard not to share the same level of enthusiasm exhibited by these two guys, and for the Cavs faithful, all they’re hoping for is a better outing this time around than their miserable 2018-19 season.
