Tristan Thompson is going to be playing for a team not named the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first time as he enters his 10th season in the NBA. With Thompson headed to the Boston Celtics, Kevin Love sent a heartfelt message to Thompson on social media.
Back before the 2014-2015 season, Kevin Love was traded to the Cavs from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Love would be acquired to form a dynamic trio alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in hopes to secure the city of Cleveland their first NBA title.
At the same time, Tristan Thompson continued to reprise his role on the Cavaliers as the enforcer on both ends of the floor. Thompson and Love would create a formidable frontcourt that could beat teams in a multitude of ways.
While Cleveland would fail to win a championship in 2014-2015, they would return to the NBA Finals in 2015-2016. And after facing a 3-1 deficit to the Golden State Warriors, the Cavaliers would make an improbable comeback to win an NBA title.
Even though he wasn’t scoring 20 points per game, Tristan Thompson made his contributions on the glass and in areas that couldn’t be found in the box score. Regardless of what his role has been or how the team has performed, Thompson hasn’t complained about his role with the Cavaliers.
Following a nine-year career in Cleveland, Thompson is making his way to Boston, who he’s terrorized in years prior. As Thompson will be sporting new threads next season, Kevin Love knows the Celtics got a hard-working player in their rotation.
