Cavs' front office has amazing NBA Jam arcade game with execs as players

The Cleveland Cavaliers front office has been busy this season trying to construct a roster worthy of defending their championship. But that isn’t the only thing that is keeping them busy.

General manager David Griffin revealed on  Zach Lowe’s podcast that the Cavs front office has an NBA Jam machine which has been reprogrammed to include Griffin and all of his staff.  Griffin received the machine from his colleagues, who gave it to him as a Christmas gift.

From Kevin Kleps of crainscleveland.com, who transcribed Griffin’s comments:

“It looks just like us. It’s amazing,” Griffin said. “The chops that these guys have. There was a hackathon here. Nothing’s going to touch what these guys did. It’s crazy.”

The GM said he’s either the third- or fourth-most powerful player in the game. The programmers made the boss really good — but not as good as they are. (Incredible, really.)

“I have far too many 9s in my arsenal right now. I’m way better in that game than I am in life,” Griffin said. “My image really is that I’m fast and I can shoot 3s, neither of which is true.”

Griffin is happy with the reprogramming, as the developers have made him quite talented on the game.

“I have far too many 9s in my arsenal right now. I’m way better in that game than I am in life,” Griffin said. “My image really is that I’m fast and I can shoot 3s, neither of which is true.”

As if the game wasn’t unique enough all ready, one of the players that is better than Griffin in the game is Harambe, the gorilla that became famous after it was shot at the Cincinnati Zoo last year. So if you are playing this game, you can play as members of the Cavs front office and Harambe. What a time to be alive.

We can only hope that other NBA front offices follow suit and get their own customized NBA Jam arcade game. Then perhaps at All-Star weekend, there can be an NBA Jam tournament featuring different NBA front offices, because frankly that would be awesome.
