After parting ways with his former general manager, David Griffin, Cleveland Cavaliers team owner Dan Gilbert has offered former Detroit Pistons great Chauncey Billups a five-year deal to spearhead Cleveland’s basketball operations.

Billups, 40, has yet to make an official decision with regards to Gilbert’s offer. However, Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio and AmicoHoops.net reported this morning that he will notify the Cavs of his intentions by today (Thursday) or tomorrow.

It sounds like LeBron James is open to the idea of Billups joining the Cavaliers organization. In fact, Amico states that James is both open and receptive to the matter.

Jason Lloyd of The Athletic reported yesterday that Billups, a close friend of head coach Tyronn Lue, spent nearly all of Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena, where he was introduced to several executives who would be working under his watch should he accept Gilbert’s offer.

The decision won’t be easy for Billups, as his family currently lives in Denver, Colorado. However, there is no question that this is a great opportunity — one that comes around only so often.
