Griffin’s contract expires at the end of this season. There have been several teams watching the proceedings between Griffin and the Cavs, including the Orlando Magic, who moved on from their previous general manager last month. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Magic intend to offer their president of basketball operations position to Griffin, but will have to wait until the end of the season. Windhorst joined the Sports Center broadcast before Game 1 against the Raptors, adding that it’s very much a possibility that Griffin moves on to Orlando.
While that may sound a bit scary for Cavs fans, Windhorst also reports that there is also a chance Griffin will receive and accept a new contract proposal from the defending NBA champs.
Griffin, one of the men you should thank for assembling Cleveland’s 2016 championship team, has been with the Cavs since 2010. His biggest star, LeBron James, has previously stated that he would endorse a new deal for Griffin. If anyone deserves a deal, it’s Griffin.
