Dwyane Wade made a surprise appearance at Game 4 of the 2017 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors, supporting his best friend LeBron James and enjoying what could be the final professional basketball game of the NBA season. Wade witnessed history as the Cavs knocked down an insane 24 three-pointers on 45 attempts, destroying the previous NBA Finals record of 18 made triples. In the process, his good buddy James put in a triple double consisting of 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, but most of the attention on the night belonged to James’ star teammate at the point guard position. Kyrie Irving scored 40 points, hitting an array of difficult and off-balance shots to repeatedly put daggers into the Warriors’ championship hopes for the game.

Near the end of the game with the score out of hand, Irving hit an off balance wing three-pointer over Warriors’ guard Patrick McCaw, and turned towards Wade, who was sitting courtside to the right of the ESPN on ABC crew, and yelled, “I told you!”

It caught the attention of many, but no one knew exactly why Irving was screaming in Wade’s direction. Luckily for us, Wade was doing a Q&A on Twitter while waiting for his wife to finish up some business, and a fan asked him about the exchange with Irving late in the game. Here’s what Wade had to say:

“We talked at halftime about him keeping his foot on the gas pedal and he said, ‘Oh I will.’ And that’s how you got the ‘I told you!'”

That explains why Irving was really feeling himself that night and kept his foot on the gas pedal the entire night. If the Cavs hope to force a Game 6, he’ll have to do the same thing again tonight.
