The Saturday Night Live production crew is well-known for their witty skits and comical parodies. Over the weekend, Donald Glover, Kenan Thompson and a few other members of the popular late night show released a playful spoof aimed in the direction of Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James (and his teammates).

As most hoops fans know, James, now 33 years of age and in his 15th season of NBA service, has been playing out of his mind for much of this season, especially this postseason. In fact, he’s currently leading the Cavs in points, rebounds and assists through their first 10 games of the playoffs with averages of 34.8 points on 54.7 percent shooting from the field (30.6 percent from beyond the arc), 8.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 block in 41.7 minutes per.

James has been great in the playoffs, it’s true. However, SNL’s parody sheds a humorous light on the fact that his teammates have struggled to find their rhythm. Basically, SNL portrayed James as a one-man show who’s teammates are simply along for the ride.

A few quotes from James’ fictional teammates:

“Everybody knows about LeBron, but don’t forget about us — the other Cavaliers.”

“Whatever LeBron needs, we’ll get it done — as long as what he needs isn’t basketball.”

“We run an offense called hot potato. LeBron throws us the ball and we throw it right back — hot potato.”

“We’re the other Cavaliers, and we just want to say thanks LeBron.”

SNL’s parody is funny, but it also holds some truth. Several of James’ teammates struggled with production through the first round of these playoffs. However, the squad seems to be playing much better in the second round. In fact, four Cavs not named LeBron James recorded 10 or more points in Saturday night’s Game 3 victory. Kevin Love posted 21 points and 16 rebounds. Kyle Korver scored 18. George Hill finished with 12 points. Jeff Green added 11.

For the record, James finished Game 3 with 38 points, including a buzzer-beating game-winner at the end of regulation.

James and the Cavs are currently leading their Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup against the Toronto Raptors, 3-0. Game 4 is set to tip at 8:30 p.m. EST on Monday night with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
