The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the greater stories in the NBA this year. They have surprised many with their excellent play on the court, climbing up the Eastern Conference. What’s been more amazing is how they have done it. The Cavs already lost point guard Collin Sexton for the season with a left meniscus tear. Then standout rookie Evan Mobley missed almost a month with injuries.

Then, a couple weeks ago, the Cavs lost another point guard. This time it was the Spaniard, Ricky Rubio who went down with a torn ACL.

The injuries prompted the team to go out and trade for longtime guard Rajon Rondo. It also left Rubio wondering about his future.

Rubio spoke with La Vanguardia about his plans. The Cavs point guard acknowledged that the seriousness of the injury creates trade speculation, but that he realized that’s just part of the business. It also means he will not participate in this summer’s European Championship.

He then went on to say that he already knows that when his son is of school age, he will finally hang ’em up from the NBA.

Cavs’ Rubio was quoted, saying “When my son starts school, the NBA will not be worth it. I will have to go back. I don’t want to make him dizzy moving around when he’s six years old, at the age of starting to make friends. It was discussed with my wife and we have it very clear. There will come a time when basketball will not be the priority.”

His son is only two years old right now, so retirement is not imminent, but he has come to terms with it already. It’s refreshing to hear that from a professional athlete.
