On Thursday morning, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they had assigned Isaiah Thomas and Ante Zizic to their G-League affiliate team, the Canton Charge, for a round of practice drills.

“The Cleveland Cavaliers have assigned guard Isaiah Thomas and center Ante Zizic to the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers’ exclusively owned and operated NBA G League team, Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman announced on Thursday, December 21.”

According to an official report from the Charge, Thomas, who is on the fast-track to recovery from an inured hip, will participate in a full team practice at Cleveland Clinic Courts.

The fact that Isaiah Thomas will participate in such a setting with the Charge is certainly a good sign. Initial reports indicated that the former Washington Huskies standout might be able to return sometime around January. However, more recent reports have said he could be slightly ahead of schedule. In fact, some have said Thomas could make his debut during Cleveland’s upcoming West Coast road swing, but that remains to be seen.

Cavs rookie Ante Zizic has played in four games with the Charge this season, averaging 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game.

The Cavs, winners in 18 of their last 20 games, welcome the Chicago Bulls to Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST with Fox Sports Ohio having live broadcast coverage.
