The Cleveland Cavaliers claimed by far their most convincing win of the season with a 116-88 demolition of the surprising Detroit Pistons. After the game, Cavs superstar LeBron James was quick to praise veteran point guard Jose Calderon for his important role in the big win.

“The game ball goes to Jose Calderon for sure tonight,” James said according to Cleveland.com’s Joe Vardon. “Coming in and starting, playing exceptionally well running the offense, making big-time shots. He was great.”

With Derrick Rose still out injured and Iman Shumpert, who had been getting the start at point guard in Rose’s absence also unavailable, coach Tyronn Lue turned to Calderon to make his second start of the year.

Calderon’s first start against the Orlando Magic didn’t go well at all, but he was much more effective this time around. He finished with 14 points, going 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-2 on three-pointers to go along with four rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes to give the Cavs a much-needed spark.

It’s unlikely that the 36-year-old Calderon is capable of coming up with those types of excellent performances on a consistent basis anymore. But until Rose and Shumpert return from their respective injuries, the Cavs will still be hoping for a couple more throwback performances from the Spanish veteran.
