The Cleveland Cavaliers have sputtered off to a 5-6 start to begin the 2017-18 NBA season. With the starters not playing up to par, the Cavs were in desperate need of a spark prior to their matchup versus an up-and-coming Milwaukee Bucks team.

Fortunately, they got just that with shooting guard J.R. Smith going off for a season-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting. After a horrid start to the year, Smith is admittedly looking to shoot his way out of an early slump, per Fox Sports Ohio.

“I just said to hell with it, I’m going to go back to my old way of playing and just shoot, shoot, shoot and see if I can get myself out of this thing.”

It is safe to say the formula worked to perfection for J.R. Smith after he sank five of his seven 3-point attempts in their much-needed win. However, it remains to be seen whether or not he can keep up this type of efficiency.

Entering their matchup versus the Bucks, Smith was averaging a paltry 5.5 points per game while shooting less than 28 percent from the field and 3-point land. It goes without saying the Cavs could use some consistency from the 15-year veteran as they continue to find their footing.
