Dwyane Wade was traded to the Miami Heat for a second-round pick but the details of that pick had yet to be revealed. Initially, it was merely reported that the pick was heavily protected and that it is likely not going to be for any time in the near future.

92.3 The Fan’s Daryl Ruiter says that the Cavaliers “received a protected 2024 2nd round pick from Miami for Dwyane Wade.”

That 2024 second-round pick is not going to be of much use to the Cavaliers right now unless another team is interested in it in a trade in the offseason or next season. Even then, the pick is likely heavily protected, which means it’ll likely never pan out for the Cavs.

The primary reason for the trade that brought Wade back to the Miami Heat was to give him the opportunity to play more minutes. With Cavs’ coach Tyronn Lue looking to give more minutes to Cedi Osman while lowering Wade’s minutes, as wellgeneral manager Koby Altman didn’t think it was fair to him. He also wanted the Cavs to have a new look.

“I think it’s obvious the goal was to get younger,” Altman said. “We got more talented and certainly more athletic.”

After trading away six players from their roster, Cleveland received only four players in return. Since the Cavs didn’t receive a player for Wade, they have an extra roster spot or two to sign a player off of waivers or grab a free agent that could help them heading to the playoffs.

The new look Cavaliers won’t be showcasing any of their new players until Sunday when they play the Boston Celtics.
